Amy is 28 years old and lives with Aston who is 30 years old. Amy is pregnant with her 1st child. Amy attends an antenatal clinic in the community when she is 17 weeks pregnant.

  1. What reasons could Amy give for not attending antenatal clinic sooner? What do the NICE guidelines advice is the most appropriate time to “book” in a pregnancy?
  2. What influences our decisions re “booking” and plan of care for the remainder of her pregnancy including investigations to be undertaken.
  3. What influences our decisions re her plan of care for the remainder of her pregnancy as she has booked for care in the 2nd trimester.

Amy has an uneventful, pregnancy.  She arrives at the local hospital at 41 weeks gestation in advanced labour, accompanied by Aston and her mother.

Amy births a healthy baby girl by NSVD. Apgar scores are 8:1 minutes and 9:5 minutes. Weight 3kgs, bottle feeding.
